Nitride-based semiconductors for blue and green light-emitting devices

Article Abstract:

A number of developments in fabrication technologies for the semiconducting nitrides of the group III elements have spawned commercially available high-efficiency solid-state devices emitting green and blue light. Light-emitting diodes based on these materials can be used in flat-screen displays, while blue and ultraviolet laser diodes show potential in high-density optical data storage such as projection television, photographic film printers and high-resolution printing.

Efficient silicon light-emitting diodes

Article Abstract:

It has been possible to achieve a large rise in silicon light-emitting diode power conversion efficiency to values above 1% near room temperature. The new devices exploit the reciprocity between light absorption and emission by boosting absorption at appropriate sub-bandgap wavelengths while limiting the scope for parasitic non-radiative recombination within the diode.

Nitride semiconductors free of electrostatic fields for efficient white light-emitting diodes

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the development of light-emitting diodes which can be used instead of conventional light bulbs. The brightness of light-emitting diodes is discussed.
