No exception to reversibility

Article Abstract:

Histone are not merely architectural proteins but they also influence chromatin dynamics which are a basic unit of which consists of DNA wrapped around an octamer of histone proteins. Histone methylation is linked to biological processes ranging from the regulation of gene transcription, to the inactivation of one copy of the X chromosome in females to RNA-mediated gene silencing.

Rec8 phosphorylation and recombination promote the step-wise loss of cohesins in meiosis

Article Abstract:

A demonstration that phosphorylation of the cohesin subunit Rec8 contributes to step-wise cohesin removal is presented. The data implicate two other key regulators of meiotic chromosome segregation, the cohesion protector Sgo1 and meiotic recombination in bringing about the step-wise loss of cohesins and thus the establishment of the meiotic chromosome segregation pattern.

Cohesins slip sliding away

Article Abstract:

Cohesion between sister chromatids caused by cohesins is important during meiosis. Identification of cohesin-binding sites on chromosomes, has given cohesin great importance and it seems that cohesin binding is dynamic, adapting to changes in gene transcription.
