Not just a load of bolometers

Article Abstract:

Research continues to investigate applications for colossal magneto-resistance sensors of magnetic fields. It is likely that the colossal magneto-resistance properties of low-carrier-density pyrochlores will be fully established before those of perovskite materials. Perovskites are likely to be used as active elements in infrared cameras or bolometer technology.

A high-mobility electron gas at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 heterointerface

Article Abstract:

A model interface between two insulating perovskite oxides-LaAlO3 and SrTiO3 is examined which controls the termination layer at the interface on an atomic scale. The findings presents an opportunity to tailor low-dimensional charge states by atomically engineered oxide heteroepitaxy.

Inorganic yellow-red pigments without toxic metals

Article Abstract:

Cadmium-based pigments are used widely to colour materials but their use is restricted for environmental reasons. A new study investigates the use of perovskites CaTaO2N and LaTaON2 as harmless substitutes for cadmium pigments.
