Obligate cave fauna of the 48 contiguous United States

Article Abstract:

A list of obligate cave-dwelling species and subspecies, their county distribution and their provisional global conservation rank is assembled. A total of 927 species plus and additional 46 subspecies are described from caves in 48 contiguous states of the United States to show that conservation is best accomplished through habitat protection.

Extinction rates of North American freshwater fauna

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the future extinction rates for freshwater animals in North America using the exponential decay model. Findings suggest imperiled freshwater species will maintain an extinction rate of approximately 4% each decade.

Effects of forest roads on macroinvertebrate soil fauna of the Southern Appalachian mountains

Article Abstract:

Results show that roads through forests produce edge effects which are detrimental to the forest ecosystems. Data demonstrate that the macroinvertebrate fauna of the leaf litter facilitates soil processing, energy, and nutrients.
