Total lipid energy as a proxy for total egg production by fish stocks

Article Abstract:

There is a positive connection between recruitment and the liver weights of spawners in the Barents Sea cod stock. This indicates that recruitment is limited by the amount of lipid energy stored in the liver. Positive links between recruitment and lipid-based indices suggest that the total number of eggs produced may be connected with stored lipid energy at the stock level. There is a very significant, linear relationship between the total number of eggs produced and total lipid energy, with an intercept that is not substantially different from zero.

Archetypal energy landscapes

Article Abstract:

A greater understanding of many molecular phenomena can be achieved if energy landscapes can be characterized. A new study uses disconnectivity graphs to investigate the characteristics of three archetypal energy landscapes. The landscape morphology of a model water cluster (H2O)20, a cluster of 38 Lennard-Jones particles and a C60 buckminsterfullerene is presented.
