Optimal group size and northern bobwhite coveys

Article Abstract:

A study, combined with manipulative aviary experiments with large-scale manipulations of field populations, was conducted to investigate the costs and benefits of group size in northern bobwhite called Colinus virginians. The result reveals that there are costs and benefits of covey size in terms of predation detection, survival and feeding efficiency.

Loss of body mass under predation risk: cost of antipredatory behavior or adaptive fit-for-escape?

Article Abstract:

Losing mass under predation risk could be an adaptive response of prey to improve escape ability as locomotor performance may depend on body mass. To examine this, individual variation in antipredatory behavior, feeding rate, body mass and escape performance in the lacertid lizard Psammodromus algirus were studied.

Winter survival and additive harvest in northern Bobwhite Coveys in Kansas

Article Abstract:

The effects on natural mortality rates and the dynamics of northern bobwhite are explained. Observations indicate that natural mortality rates of radiomarked individuals are similar between harvested and unharvested areas.
