Optimal paths and irreversibiity

Article Abstract:

There are a range of problems associated with producing a theory for understanding fluctuating nonequilibrium systems. However, the theory of large fluctuations can prove useful. This theory has been the subject of research, with particular attention being given to models originally put forward by theorists to demonstrate a number of types of nonequilibrium behaviour. It has been established that the theory of large fluctuations can address many important issues relating to how nonequilibrium functions prompt complex macroscopic behaviour.

Article Abstract:

Holographic storage has been suggested as a way of storing the huge amounts of information generated by computers but it is a fragile medium and reading out the data may destroy what is written. A new study suggests a practical and stable holographic storage device in which ultraviolet light excites electrons in the recording medium via a conduction band.
