Outcry as 'scientific' badger cull is launched to target TB

Article Abstract:

Animal welfare and conservation societies in the UK are condemning a government-sponsored, five-year national experiment that will destroy around 12,500 badgers in a move aimed at investigating the widely-held belief that badgers with tuberculosis transmit it to cattle. Advocates for Animals and the National Federation of Badger Groups say that the experiment is immoral and could lead to total eradication in some areas. The experiment aims to give scientists a better understanding of bovine TB.

Positive and negative effects of widespread badger culling on tuberculosis in cattle

Article Abstract:

Positive and negative effects of widespread badger culling on tuberculosis (TB) in cattle are described. A large scale, randomized field experiment is used to show that culling reduces cattle TB incidence in the area that are culled, but increase incidence in adjoining areas.
