Para-aortic splanchnopleura from early mouse embryos contains B1a cell progenitors

Article Abstract:

The probe for a possible non-yolk-sac source of stem cells by grafting intraembryonic splanchnopleura from 10 to 18 somite mouse embryos into adult immunodeficient SCID mice reveals that considerable amount of donor derived serum IgM, usual number of IgM and normal numbers of IgM-secreting plasma cells are fully reconstituted by the donor progenitors, 3 to 6 months after grafting. The mouse fetus may contain an alternative intraembryonic source of stem cells, yet during mammalian entogeny, the yolk sac is considered to be unique provider of haematopoietic stem cells.

Role of the Flt-1 receptor tyrosine kinase in regulating the assembly of vascular endothelium

Article Abstract:

The organization of embryonic vasculature fails to occur normally when the Flt-1 receptor tyrosine kinase is disabled though differentiation by endothelial cells is unaffected. Endothelial cells were formed normally in mouse embryos homozygous for a targeted mutation in the flt-1 locus and flt-1(super lcz). However, these cells assembled into abnormal vascular channels and the embryos died in utero at mid-somite stages. Therefore, endothelial cell-cell or cell-matrix interactions may be regulated by the Flt-1 signalling pathway, during vascular development.
