Parameter estimation in encounter sampling surveys

Article Abstract:

Encounter sampling surveys help in estimating the auxiliary characteristics of individuals in the population and the duration of an event or activity. Monte Carlo simulation ascertains the performance of two new estimators, and the survey of black billed magpies (Pica pica) demonstrates the use of these techniques. These techniques are useful when the auxiliary variable is related to the duration of the event and when the total duration of the event is not known.

A population estimate for golden eagles in the Western United States

Article Abstract:

Aerial line transect distance methodology was used for golden eagle population estimation in western United States and a population of 27,292 golden eagles was estimated in the study area between late summer and early fall of 2003. This method can be used to detect future trends on golden eagle population and also develop conservation strategies.
