Paths to understanding the genetic basis of autoimmune disease

Article Abstract:

Autoimmune disease is major causes of morbidity and mortality throughout the world and these diseases tend to be difficult or impossible to cure for the obvious reason that the focus of the immune response self-antigens cannot be eliminated. The realization that the development of autoimmunity is strongly influenced by inherited polymorphisms enables to learn about the casual derangement and perhaps lead to new therapeutic strategies.

Genetics by numbers

Article Abstract:

The research work related to single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) located within a long genomic region on chromosome 9 known as 9p21.3 is reported. The findings indicate that two copies of same SNPs could increase a person's chance of developing heart disease and could be used to conduct genome wide studies of cardiovascular disease.

Maintaining a behavior polymorphism by frequency-dependent selection on a single gene

Article Abstract:

Frequency-dependent selection is illustrated in a well-known natural genetic polymorphism affecting fruitfly foraging behavior. The frequency-dependent selection is attributed to a single, naturally polymorphic gene known to affect behavior.
