Epidermal growth factor maps to pig chromosome 8

Article Abstract:

Sheep epidermal growth factor (EGF) sequence was found to mirror intron 3 of the porcine genomic DNA's EGF gene. EGF is a lone polypeptide involving 53 amino acid residues that are utilized in regulating cell growth and differentiation. Following the amplification of PCR, it was found that the PCR length polymorphism arises out of an 875-bp insertion that has portions of a porcine L1 nucleotide element, as well as sequences that mirror a part of the porcine cytochrome P450 aromatese gene. The EGF's localization to pig chromosome 8q23-q27 contributes to the comparative map.

A HincII polymorphism in the porcine Calpain, large polypeptide L3 (CAPN3) gene

Article Abstract:

Muscle-specific expression is evident in the porcine Calpain, large polypeptide L3 (CAPN3) gene. The expression yields a nonlysosomal intracellular cysteine protease. Primers for the gene were designed from a partial porcine cDNA sequence aligned with exons 11 and 13 of the human CAPN3 gene. An analysis of the gene's inheritance pattern revealed autosomal segregation consistent with Mendelian expectations.
