Pharmacokinetics in immature animals: a review

Article Abstract:

An analysis of drug pharmacokinetics between neonatal and adult food-producing animals included a review of the differences in absorption, distribution, metabolism and renal excretion of drugs. It was pointed out that delayed elimination was the main problem in neonatal drug metabolism since renal clearance is underdeveloped. Therefore it was suggested that extra care must be exercised in administering drugs to immature animals.

Biokinetics and biliary excretion of radiotocopherol administered orally to sheep

Article Abstract:

Four adult sheeps were given D-alpha-tocopherol orally and its plasma concentration serially measured during a 72-hour period after which were killed and tissue distribution examined. Results showed slow transport of the compound from the intestines to the blood via the lymphatics; with a small amount excreted through the bile unchanged.

Technical note: development of a duodenal cannula for sheep

Article Abstract:

A T-shaped duodenal cannula of silicone with a gutter-type small inner flange with a polyester surgical mesh connected to the barrel of the cannula as anchor was developed and evaluated. It presented several advantages over the conventional hard ones in terms of application, recovery, and safety.
