Physiological and Behavioral Differences in Magellanic Penguin Chicks in Undisturbed and Tourist-Visited Locations of a Colony

Article Abstract:

Magellanic Penguin chicks in tourist-visited populations were found to have higher corticosterone levels than chicks in undisturbed populations, but did not flee when approached by humans, unlike those of undisturbed populations. Both populations, however, demonstrated equal stress at capture and restraint. Findings show the complexity of habituation in the species.

A Concentric Analysis of the Impact of Urbanization on the Threatened European Tree Frog in an Agricultural Landscape

Article Abstract:

Traffic and land-use indices were analyzed to assess landscape changes on the presence of Hyla arborea in western Switzerland. The concentric method used for analysis assists in identifying possible sites for tree frog pond creation for conservation efforts.

Using Niche-Based Models to Improve the Sampling of Rare Species

Article Abstract:

A niche-based distribution model is used for stratifying samples and is applied to a rare, endangered plant in Switzerland. A significant statistical improvement was achieved over simple random sample methods, and may reduce field research time by up to 70%.
