Article Abstract:

The differing effects of the cytokines interleukin-2 (IL-2), interleukin-4 (IL-4) and interleukin-10 (IL-10) on the immune system were discussed at the 'Cytokines in Normal and Abnormal Immune Regulation' conference, held in Pacific Grove, CA, Jan 25-28, 1992. Removing the gene for IL-2 affects the immune system's balance of lymphokines, whereas IL-4 was found to be indispensable for the secretion of IgE. IL-10 appears to function as a cytokine synthesis inhibitory factor.

Article Abstract:

Issues are presented concerning the role of cytokine molecules in the production of inflammatory reactions in the body when it is under attack by invaders. The mechanism of these reactions is discussed.
