Polish science 'in need of further reforms.'

Article Abstract:

The Polish government requested an evaluation of its scientific system from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) based on the need for an objective view. Among the OECD recommendations were to provide researchers with incentives and to eliminate some of the burdensome requirements of the post-Communist system. A centralized science funding agency was recommended as was uniting high education institutes into larger universities. Some of the proposals are very controversial but the report is considered valuable.

Is science policy in the doldrums?

Article Abstract:

The decline of science policy forces policy-makers to review their goals for science and technology for the strengthening of global scientific infrastructure. This decline can be attributed to many factors, including low spending and high budgets, and limited intellectual fervor and political aid. These challenges can be met by setting appropriate goals for science and technology and by establishing an understanding between governments and the international scientific community.
