Polysaccharide aggregation as a potential sink of marine dissolved organic carbon.

Article Abstract:

Vertical mass fluxes and drive elemental cycling in the ocean is mediated by the formation and sinking of biogenetic particles mediates. Combined experimental and modeling study shows that the formation of polysaccharide particles is an important pathway to convert dissolved particulate organic carbon into phytoplankton blooms, and can be described in terms of aggregation kinetics.

Exploring biology with small organic molecules

Article Abstract:

The mapping of biological-activity space is explored using a system of coordinates that describes its new features. The challenges including the design of synthetic chemicals protein-binding and phenotypic assays is described ensuring quality control to create a comprehensive map of biological activity space using small molecules.

Lithium-ion batteries: runaway risk of forming toxic compounds

Article Abstract:

An ultrathin protective film that is 10-50 nanometres thick and coats both electrodes stabilizes lithium-ion batteries. It is found that under the thermal-runaway conditions the reaction of the battery electrolyte with the material of the unprotected positive electrode result in the formation of toxic fluoro-organic compounds.
