Article Abstract:

The pioneering German biochemist Otto Warburg's research on the enzymes responsible for the critical step of cell respiration has come into picture again, as it helps in understanding how the cell's energy metabolism affects health and disease. The therapeutic effects of such enzymes on cancer and degenerative diseases are discussed.

Negative regulation of the deacetylase SIRT1 by DBC1

Article Abstract:

The significance of the deacetylase activity of SIRT1, which is an NAD-dependent deacetylase, involved in stress responses, cellular metabolism and ageing is described. The findings suggest that DBC1 (deleted in breast cancer 1) acts as a native inhibitor of SIRT1 in human cells, which promotes p53-mediated apoptosis.
