Predicting breeding success of Atlantic Population Canada geese from meteorological variables

Article Abstract:

It has been possible for some time to achieve reasonably accurate predictions of population size for Atlantic Population Canada geese. However, it has been harder to evaluate annual breeding success because of the remoteness of breeding sites and cost considerations. Recent research has used tail-fan data from the Maryland harvest to develop an index of the proportion of young geese in the 1963-1964 fall population. Researchers then used 1963-1987 weather information to work out multiple linear regression models to predict the proportion of young geese. It will be necessary to occasionally assess predictive models as more data is obtained.

Survival, movements, and harvest of eastern prairie population Canada Geese

Article Abstract:

A variety of factors can interact to affect the distribution of Canada geese and complicate approaches to population management. However, observations, recaptures, and hunter recoveries of marked geese to give information on survival, harvest, and movements of the EPP that is wanted for long-term management of this population.

Spatial and temporal distribution of Atlantic Population Canada geese

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the use of satellite-tracked radiotransmitters attached to 34 female Atlantic Population Canada geese to determine their movements to and from the breeding grounds in Quebec, Canada.
