Cortical remodelling induced by activity of ventral tegmental dopamine neurons

Article Abstract:

Research describing the activity of dopamine neurons is presented. In particular the effects on learning of ventral tegmental area stimulation by auditory signals are investigated.

Primary cortical representation of sounds by the coordination of action-potential timing

Article Abstract:

Coordination of the timing of action potentials of groups of neurons in the primary auditory cortex of marmoset monkeys allow the neurons to signal stimuli in the absence of a change in their firing rates. Coordination makes the spikes of the neurons occur in closer proximity during continuous stimulation. The neurons show some coordination even in the absence of any stimulus. A brief stimulus produces a frequence-tuned variation in the coordination during the entire stimulus duration. The coordination is seen in a limited tonotopically mapped region of the cortex.
