Primed for a biotech boom

Article Abstract:

The biotechnology industry in Osaka is making effort to rival the successful US biotech industry as the Japan's drug industry has sales of some US $60 billion and the pharmaceutical companies grouped in greater Osaka account for 13% of this total. Some of the efforts include building the 743-hectare Saito Science Park, Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Osaka's bid to become Japan's biomedical center.

Capital collaboration Washington DC

Article Abstract:

In Washington DC, institutions like University of Maryland and Hopkins hope to expand industry collaborations as biotech in the area continues to grow. With the new interdisciplinary centres and a rise in the number of biotech companies, the Washington DC area should see an overall growth in the number of scientific jobs this year.

Bound for Boston

Article Abstract:

Boston is the hub for biotechnology companies, with its top academic institutions, but the demand for more academic input into industrial science is attracting top drug companies there too. The drug companies hope that being close to so many potential academic and biotech collaborators will help them reinvigorate drug development.
