Syk tyrosine kinase required for mouse viability and B-cell development

Article Abstract:

The cytoplasmic protein-tyrosine kinase, Syk, is essential during embryogenesis to avoid hemorrhaging. The kinase also plays a role in B-cell development. Syk supports vascular integrity and heals wounds. The embryonic homozygous syk mutants die due to hemorrhaging. The disruption of signalling from the pre-B-cell antigen-receptor complex prevents clonal expansion and maturation of pre-B cells.

Skin immunization made possible by cholera toxin

Article Abstract:

Immunization without physical penetration by needles would maker vaccination easier. The bacterial product cholera toxin (CT) is commonly use to enhance the immune response in orally and nasally administered vaccines. An immune response to vaccine components such as diphtheria or tetanus toxoids was stimulated when CT was applied to the surface of the skin.
