Protein kinase C switches the Raf kinase inhibitor from Raf-1 to GRK-2

Article Abstract:

The control mechanism for G-protein-coupled receptor kinase 2 (GRK-2) is identified by studying physiologic inhibition reaction of the Raf kinase inhibitor protein (RKIP) on GRK-2. The data reveals a new principle in signal transduction by activating PKC, and the incoming receptor signal is enhanced both by removing an inhibitor from Raf-1 and by blocking receptor internalization.

Biosensor design

Article Abstract:

Computational redesigning of the bacterial periplasmic binding proteins (PBPs) into receptors that bind serotonin and trinitrotoluene (TNT) are described. The approach is useful for designing catalytic proteins having potential implication on chemical industry or clinical diagnostics are investigated.

Lipid packing sensed by ArfGAP1 couples COPI coat disassembly to membrane bilayer curvature

Article Abstract:

Time-resolved assays is used for COPI dynamics on liposomes of controlled size. Analysis show that the rate of ArfGAP1-catalysed GTP hydrolysis in Arf1 and the rate of COPI disassembly increase over two orders of magnitude as the curvature of the lipid bilayer increases.
