Protest by barricade

Article Abstract:

Protests by French truck drivers and farmers are posing new problems for the French government in its relations with the EC. The truck drivers object to tougher rules governing the issuing of drivers' licenses, while the farmers oppose the EC's Common Agricultural Policy with its limits on government subsidies. The French government, which hopes to win approval of the European Maastricht Treaty in Sep 1992, must do a better job of persuading both groups that cooperating with the EC is in the national interest.
