Queens of the desert

Article Abstract:

The naked mole-rat is a seven-centimeter, pink nearly hairless mammal that lives underground in the acid regions of Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia in east Africa. Unlike all other mammals, they have lost their warm-blood-edness and have a body temperature only one degree higher than the surrounding ambient temperature.

Tales from the crypt

Article Abstract:

'Burying beetles' as they are commonly called are found throughout northern hemisphere, and live mainly in temperate and alpine habitats. Their lives are far from ordinary, feature murder infanticide and all of these take place in an underground burial crypt where the offspring are raised in a nest on a corpse.
