RNA-templated DNA repair

Article Abstract:

RNA can be used as a template for DNA synthesis during repair of chromosomal double-strand breaks (DSBs) in yeast. The analysis showing that even yeast replicative DNA polymerases such as [alpha] and [delta] can copy short RNA template tracts in vitro has demonstrated that RNA can transfer genetic information in vivo through direct homologous interaction with chromosomal DNA.

Ensuring error-free DNA repair

Article Abstract:

It is important to repair an altered DNA base before it is copied during DNA replication because in the nucleus of cells, active oxygen damages DNA. The strategy used was to generate a short stretch of DNA that had a base containing sulphur (thiol) residue located near the oxoG.

Holding sisters for repair

Article Abstract:

DNA's complementary copy can be used as a template for repair when its molecule breaks. A familiar protein complex is recruited to the damaged site, keeping it close to the undamaged copy.
