Rapid communication: a BstXI polymorphism in the porcine Matrix metalloprotinease 1 (MMP-1) gene locus

Article Abstract:

A study of the porcine Matrix metalloprotinease 1 (MMP-1) gene suggests that it is one of the genes responsible for prolificacy in swine. The BstXI digestion of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) product resulted in a single 374-bp fragment (BstXI- allele) and two fragments of 125- and 249-bp (BstIX+ allele). The genotyping by PCR RFLP analysis of 75 Erhualian, 20 Landrace and 15 large White pigs showed that the frequencies of BstXI-allele were 0.53, 1 and 1, respectively, in the three breeds.

Genetic linkage mapping of the porcine fibroblast growth factor 7 (FGF7) gene

Article Abstract:

A 1.3-kb fragment from porcine genomic DNA was amplified using a forward primer derived from a human fibroblast growth factor (FGF7) cDNA sequence and a reverse primer introduced by Kelly et al (1992). Two-point linkage analysis of data drawn from individual animals from the PiGMaP families shows a close linkage between the FGF7 gene and a number of other markers previously found in porcine chromosome 1 and located between SO122 and SO082.
