Rapid communication: assignment of the alpha-1-microglobulin bikunin precursor (AMBP) gene to porcine chromosome 1 via a new PCR-based polymorphism

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the linkage of the alpha-1-microglobulin bikunin precursor gene to porcine chromosome 1 using a novel polymerase chain reaction-based polymorphism. In line with this, individuals from the PiGMaP consortium reference families were genotyped for AMBP alleles to obtain linkage associations between AMBP and previously mapped loci. Results indicated that the AMBP marker supported a linkage to the orosomucoid locus with two RFLP markers segregated in the PiGMaP mapping pedigrees.

Rapid communication: Nucleotide sequence of rainbow trout alpha-globin I and IV cDNA

Article Abstract:

The nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequence of rainbow trout alpha-globin I and IV cDNA is presented. The dideoxy technique was used to identify and sequence clones 1 and 5. The identity data show that clone 1 encodes alpha-globin IV and clone 5 encodes alpha-globin I but its deduced amino acid sequence was longer by two residues than that of alpha-globin I. The heme contact region was shown to be well conserved between the rainbow trout and human sequences.
