Reduced growth of Alaskan white spruce in the twentieth century from temperature-induced drought stress

Article Abstract:

It has been established that drought stress explains the climate sensitivity of ring-width for productive upland white spruce sites in interior Alaska. This work supports the view that drought stress is a possible reason for late-20th century reduction in the positive relationship of temperature and radial growth of trees at the forest-tundra margin across the Northern Hemisphere.

Role of sea surface temperature and soil-moisture feedback in the 1998 Oklahoma-Texas drought

Article Abstract:

Factors contributing to the Oklahoma-Texas drought during the summer of 1998 are discussed. Mechanistic experiments conclude that El Nino, sea surface temperatures and atmospheric circulation were contributing factors.
