Refugees from lost habitat and reorganization of genetic population structure

Article Abstract:

Issues discussed concern the loss of animal habitats and the corresponding increase in animal refugees and genetic mixing within the population. Topics addressed include models of genetic population structure, the effects of unstable genetic differentiation on research statistics, and models to combat these statistical biases.

Genealogical analysis of a closed herd of black hairless Iberian pigs

Article Abstract:

Data is presented on the effective number of founders, nonfounders, founders' surviving alleles and founder genome equivalents in a conservation program for the Guadyerbas strain of Iberian pigs in the Mediterranean region. Coancestry and inbreeding rate increases are also discussed, and attributed to unblanaced family sizes.

Iberian lynx in fragmented landscape: predispersal, dispersal, and postdispersal habitats

Article Abstract:

Habitat selection of the endangered Iberian lynx (lynx paradinus) was examined. A multivariate analysis of variance indicated that habitat use differed between the area of origin and not between sexes.
