Reproductive fitness consequences of filial cannibalism in the flagfish, Jordanella floridae

Article Abstract:

The reproductive fitness consequences of filial cannibalism in the flagfish was quantified by comparing two cannibalism treatments crossed with two feeding treatments, high and low food. Results suggest that filial cannibalism reduced male reproductive success, and while there was an effect of food on components of fitness, there was no effect of filial cannibalism.

Intrasexual competition and mate choice in assassin bugs with uniparental male and female care

Article Abstract:

Two congeneric species, Rhinocoris tristis and Rhinocoris carmelita, with opposite parental care patterns are compared for the first time. The effect of uniparental care on intrasexual competition and mate choice in the parental R. tristis and the maternal R. carmelita is investigated.

Filial cannibalism in an assassin bug

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to investigate a new example of filial cannibalism in the paternal-caring assassin bug Rhinocoris tristis. The result supports the fact that males in the field did not lose weight while guarding, despite being unable to forage efficiently while caring.
