Progesterone production by cultured luteal cells in the presence of bovine low- and high-density lipoproteins purified by heparin affinity chromatography

Article Abstract:

Progesterone production in bovine luteal cells was identically stimulated by bovine high-density lipoprotein and low-density lipoprotein, regardless of the presence or absence of apolipoprotein B. Progesterone production was also elicited by particles containing cholesterol without apolipoproteins, indicating that some cholesterol uptake is receptor-independent. Cholesterol esters did not stimulate steroidogenesis, suggesting that either apolipoproteins are necessary for uptake or they do not participate in progesterone production.

Management systems for Holstein steers that utilize alfalfa silage and improve carcass value

Article Abstract:

A study conducted on Holstein steers fed on alfalfa silage with or without the trenbolone acetate and estradiol (TBA+E) implant did not reveal any significant influence of either diet or the implant on carcass traits. The effect of three different alfalfa feeding systems, with or without TBA+E implant, on the growth performance and carcass traits of animals was assessed. Cattle implanted with TBA+E showed higher efficiency of feed utilization than unimplanted cattle.
