Restless carbon pools

Article Abstract:

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the most significant greenhouse gas, after water vapour, and its concentration has risen by 80 parts per million by volume (ppmv) during the last two centuries. In the new Holocene record, atmospheric CO2 first fell slightly in the Early Holocene, but has since risen by 25 ppmv. The Holocene CO2 record shows persistent changes in the atmospheric CO2, that are sustained over several millenia. Indermuhle and colleagues have concluded that land biospheric carbon pool changes are mainly responsible for observed atmospheric CO2 changes.

Coassembly of K(sub v)LQT1 and minK (IsK) proteins to form cardiac I(sub Ks) potassium channel

Article Abstract:

The potassium (K+) channel gene K(sub v)LQT1 coassembles with the 130-amino acid protein minK to form the cardiac I(sub Ks) potassium channel. The minK protein has a single putative transmembrane domain and fails to form functional channels without help of the LQT1 gene. The two delayed-rectifier K+ currents, I(sub Kr) and I(sub Ks) are responsible for the modulation of the action-potential duration in cardiac myocytes. Mutations in the LQT1 gene and dysfunctions of the I(sub Ks) channel leads to cardiac arrhythmias.
