Robert W. Holley (1922-1993)

Article Abstract:

Genetics researcher Robert W. Holley died of lung cancer in Los Gatos, CA on Feb 11, 1993. Holley's most important achievement was the isolation and characterization of the nucleotide sequence of the first transfer RNA, which was invaluable for improving understanding of protein synthesis. Holley earned his PhD in organic chemistry at Cornell University in 1947, began his research on genetics in 1956 and worked at the Salk Institute in California from 1968 until his death. His work on transfer RNA won the Nobel prize in 1968.

Theodore H. Maiman (1927-2007)

OBITUARY:Theodore (Ted) H. Maiman, a very well physicist worked as a young scientist at the Hughes Aircraft Company on the amplification of microwaves by masers. He with a great aptitude for electrical engineering made a great impact on science and technology by developing the first operating laser.

Francis Crick (1916-2004)

Article Abstract:

The death of Francis Crick, who died on 28 July 2004, at the age of 88, is reported. He was a trained physicist and one of the most influential biologist of the twentieth century and had contributed to the discovery of the double helix structure of the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA).
