Gene therapy rising?

Article Abstract:

Gene therapists at a stakeholders meeting of the American Society of Gene Therapy in Arlington, Virginia discussed whether it was possible to revive the field that new regulatory requirements have made clinical trials more expensive. The discussion emerged as researchers worry that the restriction would severely limit the number of patients eligible to participate in future trials.

Tougher rules aim to prevent gene flow into crops

Article Abstract:

The USDA has announced regulations for the growing of genetically modified crops intended to produce compounds for the pharmaceutical industry. The rules would require monitoring of such crops and planting at least 1 mile away from food crops, use of machinery dedicated solely to the modified crops, and special training for workers.
