Russian academy makes deal with US company on journals

Article Abstract:

The Russian Academy of Sciences has signed contracts giving Pleiades Publishing and the American Institute of Physics (AIP) the right to publish some of the Academy's many journals. Pleiades, a subsidiary of General Media Inc (GMI), concluded an agreement in Sep 1992 under which it will take over publication and distribution of the Academy's journals. GMI will also improve the Academy's publishing equipment and put out Russian and English versions of some journals. AIP will take over six of the Academy's journals and two from other institutes.

Article Abstract:

Nature Publishing Group will open an office in Boston, Massachusetts, and will change its policy on copyright. Effective retroactively, authors will retain copyright to articles printed in Nature and its sister journals. Authors will thus be able to reprint their own papers, post them on their own not-for-profit web sites, and use them for teaching purposes.

Article Abstract:

The head-to-head competition in creating online search engines for searching scientific literature between Elsevier's Scopus and Thomson ISI's Web of science is explained. The search engines will help scientists search the literature.
