San Francisco: baywatch

Article Abstract:

The biotech industry originated in Bay Area in 1972, with the intervention of recombinant DNA by Stanley Cohen from Stanford University and Herbert Boyer of the University of California, San Francisco. There is a need for massive investment in interdisciplinary science to bring together biologists, mathematicians, computer scientists and engineers in the same setting for the further progress of biotech industry.

The collaborations between the universities of the north of England aim to transform the region into a globally competitive science center. The Northwest Regional Development Agency has awarded 6 million pound (US$11 million) grant for the alliance, which could create hundreds of jobs and attract millions of pound in additional research funds.
