Save Down House

Article Abstract:

The house that once belonged to Charles Darwin and later saw many hard days is being renovated by the Natural History Museum in London (NMH). The house was bought by Darwin in 1842, sold to a surgeon in 1929, and left by him to the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS). The RCS did not maintain the house. The NMH has a 99-year lease on the house, but a clause in the lease states that the house would go back to the RCS if the NMH can not raise enough money to renovate the house by 1996.
