Rufus Jaeger was head of the Quantum Optics Group at the University of Wentbridge, and he was selected for a unique honor to give a plenary lecture inaugurating the World Year of Physics. Jaeger was determined to give his audience an experience that would establish him as the leading authority in quantum physics and he was going to carry out his latest revolutionary experiment, called Schrodinger's mousetrap. live on stage.

Quantizing the classical cat

A mathematical analysis of a pendulum system reveals the relevance to quantum systems of the classical concept of 'monodromy'. A cat is used which dramatizes monodromy through its ability of always landing on its feet.
