Self-organized patchiness in asthma as a prelude to catastrophic shifts

Article Abstract:

Experimental evidence in which the bronchoconstriction leads to patchiness in lung ventilation is presented in case of asthma. The observations obtained by using positron emission tornography shows that bronchoconstricted asthmatics develop regions of poorly ventilated lung.
