Setting sail for history

Article Abstract:

The introducer of solar sail Lou Friedman plans to launch the Cosmos 1, a 600 square meter Mylar sail that is powered by sunlight primarily into the orbit from a nuclear Russian submarine, which is located in the Barents Sea. The speed of this sail initially will be 160 kilometers per hour and then it will gradually increase after hundred years, then it will increase its speed tremendously within the next three years and within five years, it will reach Pluto.

Bagging bursts, swiftly

Article Abstract:

Gamma rays are believed by astronomers as bursts of dying gasps of massive imploding stars. A NASA satellite called Swift will be launched in November 2004 to obtain high-resolution images that can yield clues to burst origins.

Satellites aim to shake up quake predictions

Article Abstract:

The author discusses the hypothesis that the earthquakes can be predicted via monitoring fluctuations in Earth's magnetic field. The hypothesis has been tested vie the use of new satellites developed by NASA.
