Sexually antagonistic male adaptation triggered by experimental arrest of female evolution

Article Abstract:

The adaptation of male Drosophila melanogaster reduces the fitness and evolution of females. The seminal fluid of an evolved male reduces the competitive ability of sperm from other males. The females are unable to remate but show an increased egg-laying rate. Adaptation increases male fitness but decreases the female survival. The seminal fluid has toxic side effects on females. The results of a study on the effects of male adaptation on evolution are discussed.

Light adaptation in cone vision involves switching between receptor and post-receptor sites

Article Abstract:

The cone-mediated signals from the input to the output cells of the primate retina are tracked in order to identify where light adaptation has occurred and also compare the properties of adaptation at different sites. Results show how human vision encodes everyday scenes and how sensory systems handle the challenges posed by a diverse physical environment.

Asymmetric retraction of growth cone filopodia following focal inactivation of calcineurin

Article Abstract:

Calcineurin, a protein phosphatase enriched in growth cones and dependent on calcium ions and calmodulin, is involved in neurite outgrowth and regulates directed filopodial motility. Experiments with cultured chick dorsal root ganglia neurons showed that calcineurin inhibitors cyclosporin A and FK506 delayed neuritogenesis and suppressed neurite extension.
