Short-term effects of understory and overstory management on breeding birds in Arkansas oak-hickory forests
Article Abstract:
The short-term effects of uneven-aged forest management on breeding birds in oak-hickory forests of northwestern Arkansas were examined. Two stages of the management practice were studied which included extensive cutting of understory vegetation and overstory treatment. Findings suggested that if the removal of understory vegetation was practiced widely as part of uneven-aged management, populations of some ground- and shrub-nesting forest interior species of birds could be negatively affected, while a few forest canopy and edge species may respond positively.

Large-scale habitat relationships of neotropical migratory birds in Virginia
Article Abstract:
It has been possible to test an initial hypothesis that large-scale habitat features affect the relative abundance of bird species. Potentially valuable models can be developed from GIS data sets that are usually available in resource agency systems.
