Social monogamy in the cleaning goby Elacatinus evelynae: ecological constraints or net benefit?

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to test the predictions from four hypotheses, to explain the occurrence of long-term socially monogamous pairs in the Caribbean cleaning goby Elacatinus (=Gobiosoma) evelynae. The result reveals that females spent longer cleaning when paired with a large male, and indicates that the benefits of guarding a high-quality mate may extend outside of the reproductive period for socially monogamous species.

Conspecific and heterospecific pheromone effects on female receptivity

Article Abstract:

The courtship pheromones that increase female receptivity is involved in mate discrimination in the salamanders of the family Plethodontidae. The females that receive specialized pheromones from either conspecific or heterospecific males during courtship interactions are investigated.

Experimental analysis of monogamy in the Caribbean cleaner goby, Gobiosoma evelynae

Article Abstract:

The reproductive behavior and ecology of the monogamous Caribbean cleaner goby, Gobiosoma evelynae is studied at two sites near U.S. Virgin islands, in order to understand the factors promoting monogamy. A complex mating system representing serial monogamy is observed.
