Spray-on silicon

Article Abstract:

The technique using a novel liquid precursor of solid silicon to allow the 'printing' of semiconductor films through familiar inkjet technology could permit unprecedented control over the size and placement of semiconducting silicon in future generations of high-performance electronic equipment. Semiconducting silicon is obtained from highly purified natural silicon and enormous effort goes into extracting, refining, shaping and processing silicon to make it technologically useful.

The optical age of silicon

Article Abstract:

Silicon has received modest attention as an optical material, despite of its success as an electronic material. The silicon chip has been the mainstay of the electronics industry and it might similarly dominate photonics in the near future.
