Stellar mass limited

Article Abstract:

Donald Figer has analyzed the stellar content of the Arches cluster, a highly populous, nearby star cluster using the Hubble Space Telescope. He found that there are no stars heavier than about 150 solar masses, providing direct evidence for the idea that the spectrum of stellar masses has an upper limit.

An extragalactic supernebula confined by gravity

Article Abstract:

The formation of the globular cluster, which contains hundreds of thousands of stars in a volume only a few light years away is analyzed. The measurement of infrared hydrogen recombination lines from a young, forming super star cluster in the dwarf galaxy NGC5253 is presented.

Formation of massive black holes through runaway collisions in dense young star clusters

Article Abstract:

A cluster of young stars from the center of the starburst galaxy is explained by invoking a black hole with a mass of at least 350 solar masses. The numerical simulations of the evolution and motion of stars within the clusters is reported.
