Stress drives gas into a black hole

Article Abstract:

New interstellar magnetic field measurements in the bar region of the galaxy NGC1097 are presented by Beck and colleagues, inferring direction of glass flow and location of gas compression regions. They suggest that magnetic stress could be an effective mechanism for fuelling central black holes of active galactic nuclei. The observed change in pitch angle of the magnetic field lines in the central region could be optimal for further gas inflows as a result of magnetic stress.

A supernova engine turns over

Article Abstract:

The convective core of the supernovas is modelled as a huge thermodynamical engine to explain and understand the phenomenon of massive star collapses and explosions. Two dimensional simulations based on this assumption have yielded vigorous explosions. Comparisons between the results obtained with the two-dimensional simulations and one-dimensional simulations are presented. Mechanisms responsible for the collapse of supernovas based on the previous results are discussed.

Discovery of a young nearby supernova remnant

Article Abstract:

Six of the 200 supernova remnants found in the galaxy are young that around 1,000 years. A supernova remnant RX JO852.0-4622 has been identified from its x-ray emission with a high temperature of greater than 3x10(super7)K, suggesting an age of less than 1,500 years. A distance of less than 1 kpc is indicated, suggesting that RX JO852.0-4622 may be the closest supernova occurring during recent human history.
