Structural basis for the spectral difference in luciferase bioluminescence

Article Abstract:

The crystal structures of wild-type and red mutant (S286N) luciferases from the Japanese Genji-botaru in complex with high-energy intermediate analogue, 5-O-[N-dehydroluciferlyl)-sulfamoyl]adenosine (DLSA) are reported. Comparing these structures to those of the wild-type luciferase complexed with AMP plus oxyluciferin reveals a significant conformational change in the wild-type enzyme but not in the red mutant.

Crystal structures of histone demethylase JMJD2A reveal basis for substrate specificity

Article Abstract:

A mechanism for achieving methylation state selectivity involving the orientation of the structure of JMJD2A in complex with a set of histone H3K9 and H3K36 substrates and products of different Iysyl methylation states is presented.
