Structural definition of a conserved neutralization epitope on HIV-1 gp120

Article Abstract:

The stabilized gp120 glycoprotein molecules are constructed and the effect of the stabilization on the binding kinetics of CD4 and on antibodies reactive with sites of receptor binding is examined. The analysis has disclosed the functionally conserved surface that allows for initial CD4 attachment and has also provided an atomic-level description of the b12 epitope, which has served as a main target for humoral neutralization of human immunodeficiency virus type 1.

Exogenous and endogenous glycolipid antigens activate NKT cells during microbial infections

Article Abstract:

Evidence for microbial, antigen-specific activation of NKT cells against Gram-negative, lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-negative alpha-Proteobacteria such as Ehrlichia muris and Sphingomonas capsulata are reported. The findings identify two novel antigenic targets of NKT cells in anti-microbial defense and show that glycosylceramides are an alternative to LPS for innate recognition of the Gram- negative, LPS- negative bacterial cell wall.

The gene product Murr1 restricts HIV-1 replication in resting CD4+ lymphocytes

Article Abstract:

The HIV-1 virus that affects the quiescent and proliferating CD4+ lymphocytes has poor replication when it comes to resting T cells. Murr1, a gene product that curbs HIV-1 growth in unstimulated CD4+ T cells, acts as a genetic restriction factor that stop the growth of HIV-1 replication in lymphocytes.
