Structure of Dnmt3a bound to Dnmt3L suggests a model for de novo DNA methylation

Article Abstract:

The interaction of the carboxy-terminal domain pf human DNA methyltransferase 3-like protein (Dnmt3L) with the catalytic domain of DNA methyltransferase 3a (Dnmt3a) is explained. The structure can be used as a model for studying the de novo DNA methylation process.

Essential role for de novo DNA methyltransferase Dnmt3a in paternal and maternal imprinting

Article Abstract:

Imprinted genes are marked during gametogenesis so that they are expressed from either the paternal or the maternal side in the offspring. Imprinting is often disrupted in congenital malformation syndromes, tumors and cloned animals.

A histone H3 methyltransferase controls epigenetic events required for meiotic prophase

Article Abstract:

Meisetz, a histone methyltransferase is important for the progression of early meiotic prophase. It indicates that meiosis-specific epigenetic events in mammals are crucial for proper meiotic progression.
